Jamie Flett’s Impreza WRX STI Type R

Jamie’s Type R project follows the S5 WRC idea through stripped bodywork, custom parts and years of detailed workshop updates.

The owner and the car

Jamie Flett bought his Version 6 Type R in 2004. His Type-RA journal, posted as TYPERV6, explains how undisclosed crash damage led to a much bigger project.

How it started

Work on the S5-inspired replica began in 2009. A white rally-car direction replaced an earlier 22B idea, with the shell stripped and custom bodywork taking shape. This started as a road car, not an original works WRC chassis.

The work behind it

Carbon-Kevlar panels and the repair work made this a long job. Family, work and budget all affected the pace. Paddy McGrath’s September 2020 Speedhunters visit captured Jamie and the unfinished shell in the workshop. Those are the photographs shown here.

A later workshop update

In his June 5, 2025 owner update, Jamie described carbon fog-light pods, Dzus fasteners and plans for Hella lamps. He also documented reinforcement around the lower radiator support and inner-arch infill work.

Where it stands

That later post shows continued fabrication, not a completed-car announcement. Follow Jamie’s journal for his own account of the work. Photography: Paddy McGrath / Speedhunters.
