Naoki’s widened red coupe brings a WRC-inspired shape to Tsukuba, where this Classic Impreza was photographed by Speedhunters.

The owner and the car

This red coupe belongs to Naoki Takigashira. Dino Dalle Carbonare’s February 2016 Speedhunters feature identifies it as a 1997 Impreza WRX STI, photographed at Tsukuba Circuit.

The direction

The widened body takes its cues from Subaru’s WRC cars, but this is a time-attack build. The low front bumper, broad arches and rear wing give the familiar two-door shape a much more purposeful stance.

A closer look

The photograph puts the car beneath Tsukuba’s Dunlop arch. Look along the side and you can see how the wider body changes the proportions without losing the Classic Impreza outline.
