What happened
Conner Martell and Ross Whittock finished first in the published report from the 2026 Lake Superior Performance Rally, held October 9 and 10 around Marquette, Michigan. Their Subaru Motorsports USA WRX ARA25 closed the American Rally Association national season with a win on the Upper Peninsula’s gravel roads.
There is one detail to keep with that result: the October 10 report published by Off-Road Racer says the results remained provisional pending a protest. This recap reflects the reporting available on October 14.
Martell was standing in for Travis Pastrana, who was recovering from a leg injury. According to RACER’s October 11 recap, Martell won all but one contested stage. Seth Quintero and James Morgan finished second, with Lia Block and Alex Gelsomino third. Quintero was reported as the season’s overall champion.
Why it matters
For Martell and Whittock, Michigan offered another chance after a difficult Subaru debut together at Overmountain Rally Tennessee. Subaru’s event preview describes a promising run there that lost time after a rock impact. Martell brought experience as a Vermont SportsCar test driver and the runner-up in the 2025 ARA National Championship.
For those of us who found Subaru through older Imprezas, there is still plenty to follow on today’s stages. The cars have changed, but a Subaru working its way through gravel and autumn trees remains a familiar reason to pay attention. This result gives us a current chapter alongside the stories on our Rally Heritage page.
What comes next
For the official classification and any revisions, use ARA’s event results and championship standings. The published provisional notice remains part of this recap until a final classification is verified.
Our original LSPR preview covers the event’s location and organizers. For the longer connection between Subaru and rallying, revisit Colin McRae and Subaru’s 1995 season.
